The shield combines a tall, gently arched upper section with a dramatically tapered lower point. Its plain, deeply textured walnut-stained wooden face is reinforced by a substantial central metal boss, four full-length structural iron straps, and a matching metal perimeter.

The result is a rugged, understated medieval shield that emphasizes natural wood character, exposed metalwork, and practical structural detailing rather than painted heraldry.

The Core Construction & Shape Typology

The Kite Shield Shape:
This shield features the distinctive elongated Kite Shield profile, with a gently arched upper edge and broad shoulders that progressively narrow toward the lower point.

Unlike the shorter Heater Shield, the extended lower section gives the shield a much taller defensive silhouette. The broad upper portion provides substantial coverage while the tapered lower section creates the characteristic teardrop-shaped appearance associated with Norman-era shields.
